Surprising Social Media Facts & What You Should Do

Surprising Social Media Facts & What You Should Do

You're probably already aware how rapidly social media is changing and how big of a role it plays in your business' marketing strategy, but did you know just how much potential it can have on your business?

Here's 6 Facts that might help you rethink your business' perspective towards social media and what needs to be done.

1.) Social media rules the web.

Social Media has become THE NUMBER 1 THING users are doing online. More than surfing websites, users spend more time on social media than anything else. People are even searching for businesses and products through social media, not just Google.

What You Should Do About It:
If this means anything at all, it means that you should start taking your social media serious. At this point, your social media is just as important as your website.

Let your audience know what you've been up to, what you're working on. Be sure to let them know of any new products or services.

Special deals and contests are huge in the social media world and a great way to actively engage your users — get more likes and followers!

2.) Social Media isn't just for teenagers anymore

Twitter: Since 2012, the demographic for 55-64 year olds has grown over 79%.
Google+ and Facebook: The 45-54 year demographic is the fastest growing bracket on both Google+ and Facebook.

What Should You Take From This?
These statistics show that social media is for everyone now, not just the youth.

Having campaigns that target these age groups and their interests is highly important. If you're just targeting the younger demographic, you could be missing a huge part of your potential audience.

3.) Youtube has overcome cable network reach

For U.S. adults (18-34) youtube has more reach than cable tv!

Youtube has a huge audience reach, and best of all, it's like free marketing to an endless amount people.

What Can You Do?
Maybe it's time to launch a video series. These could be anything from a "How-To" series or maybe just a simple introduction to your company, team members, or what you're working on.

Don't be afraid to get creative. Show users your passion, use humor or other elements to impress your audience. Who knows, you just might be the next viral video sensation!

4.) 93% of marketers use social media for their marketing strategies and campaigns

This shows just how important it is to actively engage in your social media. Have you looked at any of the big name companies out there? They're all highly active in the social media realm, constantly engaging their users, letting them know what's going on and any special deals they have.

There's a simple reason 93% of marketers are using social media — It's because it works and just about everyone these days checks the social media numerous times a day. It's a clear cut way to reach users.

What Should You Do?
While marketing on social media platforms is "relatively free", it's important to include the time spent creating posts, contests, ect. in your budget. If you pass on this, you could be missing out on a huge marketing opportunity.

5.) 25% of smartphone users, age 18-44, can't recall the last time their phone wasn't next to them

This shows that people are always connected to the web. They're constantly checking their social media to see what's going on around them.

If they're out and about, chances are they're trying to look something up on their phone.

Did you know that people are searching for places and finding out where things are not just through Google anymore. They're using things like Facebook to find addresses, phone numbers, products, deals, and more.

What Does This Mean For You?
It means people are probably looking for you through social media. It would be best to start by making sure your Facebook and other platforms are complete with phone numbers, directions, website address, and anything else people could be looking you up to find.

6.) Blogging has become bigger now, more than ever

Blogging creates tons of advantages for your business.

You can use it to control the tone and image to market your product, share your company news, and provide interesting information to your users.

Blogging essentially allows you to give a personal insight into your company and help your audience feel that you really do care for them and their needs.

What Can You Do?
The best and maybe most obvious strategy, would be to get a blog set up on your website. Not only does this give users a reason to keep visiting your site, but it helps your SEO as well. Google loves to see sites that are being updated with fresh content that users can engage in.

And with certain blog modules, you can even have them post out to all your social media platforms...That's like 5 birds with 1 stone, and a huge audience reach!

While it may sound easy, blogging isn't always the easiest task. It involves some knowledge about how to write content that users care about and want to read, creating catchy headlines and knowing when the best time to publish your articles are.

Having a full-time content strategy can be a big workload and can often times mean a huge portion of your time spent on content and marketing, but the pay off can be huge for your business.
