USAutomatic

Accessible design for a company built on access

Project Overview

USAutomatic is a leading manufacturer of gate openers and access control systems in the United States. 10 Pound Gorilla was hired to design and develop the new USAutomatic website to deliver a polished website that more effectively showcases the organization's products and services.

To effectively market to new customers, our designs focused on clearly describing what USAutomatic does and offers and why customers would want to purchase from USAutomatic. Dedicated pages for different user groups were created to communicate effectively with these unique user groups.

10 Pound Gorilla developed a robust digital product catalog to provide documentation and specifications on products, accessories, and replacement parts.

Results

The USAutomatic website was launched with excellent website accessibility and load performance scores, with perfect website accessibility scores by the WAVE accessibility tool and Google Lighthouse

The website also ranks well above industry averages on Google Lighthouse for load performance (94/100) and SEO (100/100).

Note: Website accessibility and load performance scores can shift over time

What we focused on

Website Accessibility & Optimization

Building a website accessible to all users was an essential requirement for USAutomatic. Building a website that met and exceeded all WCAG accessibility guidelines helped to ensure that the new USAutomatic website is accessible to all users regardless of disabilities.

During the project's design phase, we ensured proper color contrast throughout the website while remaining true to the USAutomatic brand. During the project's development, coding was completed to meet and exceed WCAG guidelines.

The website was developed with standard development best practices to ensure it loads as quickly and efficiently as possible; this included:

  1. Loading as few CSS/JS files as possible - via code consolidation.
  2. Removing unnecessary code - via custom CSS/SCSS code compilation.
  3. Optimizing and compressing images for the web.
  4. Utilizing Content delivery networks (CDN) for improved resource loading.
  5. Leveraging server client dependency and caching services.

Emphasis on Clear & Effective Communication

During the project's design phase, 10 Pound Gorilla worked with the USAutomatic team to craft content for the website that clearly describes USAutomatics' value proposition and what they do.

A straightforward and effective navigation was built to accommodate the various user groups that visit USAutomatic. Dedicated pages for the different user groups were created to communicate effectively with these unique user groups.

Developing a Product Catalog

10 Pound Gorilla developed a new digital product catalog, which serves as a hub of information and a resource library for users to learn about product offerings, specifications, and how to purchase accessories and replacement parts or to get in contact with a distributor or installer.
