Streamlining content for the transit industry

Project Overview

The California Transit Association (CTA) partnered with Euclid Technology, an Association Management Software (AMS) provider, and 10 Pound Gorilla to create a modern and user-friendly website. The project's primary objective was to enhance user experience, streamline content management, and improve data integration with the Euclid AMS through the development of a DNN (DotNetNuke) theme and structured content management. This case study outlines the development process and the successful implementation of the DNN theme, including integrating with the Euclid AMS system.

Project Participants

  1. California Transit Association (CTA): The client, representing the transit industry in California.
  2. Euclid Technology: The Association Management Software provider responsible for data management for the California Transit Association.
  3. 10 Pound Gorilla: The web development agency responsible for developing the DNN theme development, structured content building blocks, and AMS integrations.

Project Objectives

  1. Create a modern and visually appealing website.
  2. Develop a DNN theme based on client-provided mock-ups.
  3. Implement structured content to simplify content management.
  4. Integrate the website with Euclid's AMS for dynamic content synchronization.

Project Execution

Mock-Up Analysis:

The project began with an analysis of the mock-ups provided by CTA. The design and user interface elements were carefully examined to ensure that the final website would be visually consistent with the client's vision. The mock-ups served as the foundation for the DNN theme development.

DNN Theme Development

The DNN theme was developed by 10 Pound Gorilla, with a focus on creating an intuitive, structured, and responsive design. Key features of the theme included:

  1. Responsive Design: The new CTA website prioritized responsive design principles to provide a positive user experience for users on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
  2. User-Friendly Interface: The DNN theme featured a user-friendly interface, ensuring that content managers could effortlessly manage the website without technical expertise.
  3. Structured Content: The theme was built to utilize the DNN modules 2sxc, and EasyDnnNews to provide a structured content management system. This predefined structure simplifies the process of creating and updating pages with a no-code solution while also reducing the risk of errors or inconsistencies in the website over time.

Integration with Euclid AMS

One of the project's significant achievements was the seamless integration with Euclid Technology's Association Management Software (AMS). This integration allowed for dynamic content synchronization, removing the need for duplicate data entry. One notable example of this integration was in the "Events" section of the website:

  1. Events Integration: Utilizing the DNN module 2sxc, dynamic content is pulled from the Euclid’s AMS via an API to pull and display event data in real-time. This eliminated the manual entry of event details on the website and ensured that event information was always up-to-date.

Results and Benefits

The development and implementation of the DNN theme for the California Transit Association website resulted in several key benefits:

  1. Improved User Experience: The user-friendly design and responsive layout enhanced the overall user experience, making it easier for visitors to access information and navigate the site.
  2. Streamlined Content Management: The structured content and integration with Euclid's AMS significantly simplified content management, reducing the administrative workload and minimizing the risk of errors.
  3. Data Synchronization: The integration with the AMS allowed for real-time data synchronization, ensuring that event information, membership data, and other content remained consistent across the website.
  4. Cost and Time Savings: The elimination of duplicate data entry and the reduced need for manual content updates resulted in cost and time savings for the CTA.

Conclusion

The collaborative effort between the California Transit Association, Euclid Technology, and 10 Pound Gorilla successfully delivered a modern, user-friendly website for CTA. The development of the DNN theme, combined with integration with the Euclid AMS, resulted in an efficient, content-rich website that continues to meet the needs of CTA and its members. This project serves as a prime example of how thoughtful web development and AMS integration can enhance user experiences and streamline content management for associations and organizations.
