Project Successes, Challenges, & Lessons Learned
Every large-scale website overhaul presents unique challenges, and HRCA’s project was no exception. Two key areas required careful planning and execution to ensure a seamless transition: the launch strategy, particularly the 301 redirect implementation, and the migration of HRCA’s extensive collection of forms.
One of the biggest technical challenges was preserving user experience and search engine rankings following a significant restructuring of HRCA’s website. With several hundred pages undergoing reorganization, we developed a comprehensive 301 redirect strategy to ensure that legacy links—bookmarked by users or still appearing in Google search results—seamlessly direct visitors to the appropriate new pages. This approach minimized broken links, maintained HRCA’s search presence, and ensured a smooth transition for returning users.
Another critical project component was migrating approximately 75 contact, registration, and payment forms. Given the complexity and volume of these forms, we conducted a form audit and inventory to streamline the migration process, allowing us to identify consolidation opportunities, reduce redundancy, and improve usability. Additionally, we enhanced the design and styling of the forms to align with HRCA’s updated branding and user experience goals. By implementing a structured process for rebuilding and optimizing these forms, we ensured that this essential aspect of the website was functional and visually polished.
These challenges reinforced the importance of meticulous planning, strategic content mapping, and a user-first approach to website migration. Through careful execution, we successfully transitioned HRCA to a modern, user-friendly platform while preserving its digital footprint and improving site functionality.
